Velella Jellyfish
To the untrained eye, finding your favorite beach destination covered with debris might immediately make you think of one thing: trash! And while there are many unfortunate truths about pollution in our oceans, this isn’t one of them.
The next time you’re heading out for a summer walk along the shore, make sure to be careful where you’re stepping. You might see shells, seaweed, and of course, Velella Velella (say that ten times fast!)—intriguing creatures that are washing up along the west coast by the millions.
Watch as marine biologist and Executive Director of the Bay Foundation, Tom Ford, tells us a little more about these sailing jellyfish.
