Angela Hosts Special Screening of “When the Game Stands Tall” film!
I had the pleasure of hosting a special screening of “When The Game Stands Tall” with Director Thomas Carter & cast members Alexander Ludwig & Jim Caviezel for LA Youth Sports Outreach!
De La Salle High School in Concord, CA was a sports powerhouse and in 12 seasons the De La Salle Spartans amassed one of the greatest winning streaks in sports history—151 consecutive games. This film is based around the streak and the life of coach Bob Ladouceur and the book, When The Game Stands Tall.
When I was asked to host this, I didn’t realize that I would have any connection the film. As I read the synopsis, it quickly brought back a fond memory from childhood. My FIRST experience in sports media was as an intern for High School Sports Focus in the SF Bay area my junior year of high school. I covered high school football; going to games, logging highlights and tape, and writing scripts for the host, Robert Braunstein. I still remember his piece of advice on interviewing–“the more open and honest you are to people you interview, the more honest and open they will be with you.” These simple words have resonated in my work and the way I live life. Honesty and loyalty are strong themes in the film, and seeing the Bay Area on the big screen warmed my heart to wax nostalgic for the past.
Full circle. Great film and message and so much fun to interview the cast & director!
